Pair-Case
The Pair-case was the second style of watch and now used a more rounded appearance in contrast to its predecessor. This 18th century model was used among the wealthy and as it got closer to the 19th century sailor began to use them. These sailors were also the ones who began decorating their watches with different images and animals.
Open-face Case
The Open-Face case was another model made in the 18th century and soon became favored by the work industry. The lack of a decorated cover (instead the design was placed on the back piece) allowed workers to quickly read time and would end up becoming the required standard model for the railroad in the 1890s and onwards.
Hunter-Case
The Hunter-case (also known as the Full Hunter model) was developed for hunter, it was similar to the pair-case design wise but its cover was made more durable material and adjustments to make it easier to open. As it grew in popularity it gained another title: Savon meaning soap in french as it mimicked the structure of them.
Half Hunter-Case
The Half-Hunter case was a model made around the mid-19th century as an improved version of the Hunter. As glass became more durable the front cover now contained a circle window or hole what would allow its owner to read the time without needing to open the cover. the covers would contain roman numerals and the design was placed on the back.
Double Hunter Case
The Double Hunter case was made near the late 19th century before pocket watches began to decline in making and popularity. This model the covers were made thicker and acted as a stand so the watch could sit up-right. One side show time while the other allowed to viewer to see all the little cogs working together. After this model pocket watches began to slowly die out but never fully went away as all versions of the Hunter case can be found in all sorts of sizes and designs.
